The Need

We exist to support social purpose organisations in realising their full potential.

Paying for impartial, high quality business expertise and advice, is not a reality for the majority of Australia’s social purpose sector.

Yet these are the very organisations we expect are addressing some of our most pressing societal challenges.

  • We expect charities to be impactful.
  • We expect charity expenses and costs to be lean.
  • We expect their boards and staff have the skills for success.

Tanarra has as much to learn from the charity sector as it has to share. We’re seeing first-hand the extraordinary leadership, innovation and grit of Australian charities.

We decided to focus our efforts on helping improve effectiveness and efficiencies of non-profits, by sharing what we do best – offering impartial business advice through a fresh set of eyes on: business strategy, financial modelling, risk assessment and improving governance.

Our vision

An Australian charity sector realising its full potential to deliver significant social and economic outcomes.

Our mission

To strengthen the strategic and financial positions of Australian charities, enhancing the great work they are already doing.

Providing skills and expertise not dollars

Our contribution

  • We work with the CEO and Board Directors of progressive Australian non-profit organisations.

  • Our team of highly skillled professionals give their time and expertise, at low or no charge.

  • We work with progressive organisations where we can see change traction on the ground.

  • We focus on Australian social issues of significance e.g. An ageing population, disadvantage, Indigenous equity, affordable housing, rural and regional economic development, conservation and our future food bowl, and growing the giving of Australians.

  • We try to help improve the effectiveness of organisations by sharing the commercial skills of Tanarra and friends to address strategic or operational challenges.

  • Charities come to Tanarra with a challenge or problem.  After a vetting and approval process, we work closely with members of the Board and the CEO. Together, we scope the project and agree on a set number of hours. The result is actionable ideas for the CEO and Board members.

  • We’re known for asking the tough questions.

  • We are here to broaden our own understanding and insights into the community sector as we are to share our skills.
